News
10.15.2006 Long time since the last update, but lots to report.  Optimus Rhyme released School the Indie Rockers in July and it's already making some waves.  Optimus rocked the Penny Arcade Expo for a third consecutive year as well as opening up a hugely entertaining MC Chris show at El Corazon in Seattle.  Optimus is jumping on the AutoBeat Airbus to play a few select shows in the East with nerd-core pioneer MC Frontalot.  They've also been receiving solid reviews and other mentions in Wired and Zero Magazine among others.  As always, they're at their finest playing in front of a live audience so check the tour dates and we hope to see you out there.

1.2.2006  Happy New Year all. 2005 brought a mix of good and bad for Narcofunk and all of our friends and family.  Optimus Rhyme continued to grow their music and audience in 2005 being nominated for best hip-hop group in Seattle and playing some great shows including Penny Arcade's PAX.  They've also been busy writing some great new material which they'll be recording for their next record in early 2006.  On a sad note, DJ Lowphat(aka Ryan Hade) from Like Minds passed away in 2005 and is dearly missed.  Narcofunk is pleased to announce the web release of Like Minds debut album which was in the final stages of production at the time of Ryan's death.  Check it out now and see the workings of MC E-Prez and DJ Lowphat in their first and only release.  Lastly, The 100th Monkey went on permanent hiatus in 2005 after rocking the Pacific Northwest for five years with a couple of nice releases.  We wish all of you the best in the new year and be sure to check back with us regularly.

9.20.2005 Optimus Rhyme rocked the Penny Arcade Expo for a second year running.  1Up,com did an interview with our very own MC Wheelie which can be found here.  Word on the street is that Optimus is also getting some coverage in the current issue of Nintendo Power Magazine so be sure to check that as well.  As for shows, Optimus just booked a show opening for Northern State at the Crocodile Cafe in October.  They've got a bunch of new material so if you haven't checked them recently, this is the show to see them.

6.26.2005 Narcofunk Records is sad to announce that Like Mind's DJ Lowphat, aka Ryan Hade died in a motorcycle accident on June 9th, 2005.  Ryan was extremely creative and a very talented DJ and musician, but first and foremost he was a great friend with a strong desire to live life to its fullest.  All of us who knew him are thankful for the time we spent with him while he was here and are saddened to see him go.

3.13.2005 Damn, it's been a long time since the last update and we have a lot to talk about. First off, Optimus Rhyme is back in town and playing shows again with a lot of new material for your ear.  A big congratulations to Optimus who have been nominated for best hip-hop group by the Seattle Weekly and will be playing the awards showcase on May 1st.  The good people at Penny Arcade have also invited Optimus back to their fine Expo in August - we're sure it will be even better then last year and that's saying something.  Last word on Optimus, they've almost sold all the copies of their debut record so be sure to pickup a copy before they're gone.

In other big news, Narcofunk Records has added the Tacoma based hip-hop group Like Minds to our artist roster.  You might have already heard their  track Soldier's Song which appeared as a Narcofunk single.  They're feverishly finishing up work on their full length record so be on the look out for it this summer.

Lastly, The 100th Monkey is still on hiatus as they regroup and search for a new keyboardist.  If you know anyone with chops, please get in touch.

8.15.2004 Optimus Rhyme received another round of positive reviews for their debut album. You can check them out on their band page.  They've only got a couple more shows before they begin a bit of a hiatus, so come out and get your fix. The 100th Monkey is currently looking for a new keyboardist. If you are interested or are know someone who is, contact us at info@narcofunk.com.

6.15.2004 Optimus Rhyme's album just got reviewed by High Bias.  Short but very positive.  Check it out on the High Bias website or on Optimus' page here at Narcofunk.  We've also posted another single, this time by Seattle hip-hop group Gri-Fi.  This track is off of Gri-Fi's upcoming full length release and they're definitely worth checking out.  You should scope their official website for more info.

5.09.2004 Lots of new shows as you can see.  Thanks for everyone who came out to the EMP Liquid Lounge on Thursday despite the Friends finale.  I have finally updated our photo archive with some pics from the show.  Lastly, congratulations to Optimus Rhyme for charting all over the West Coast.  In particular, Optimus was charting at #1 for hip-hop on KUPS Tacoma.  Your continuing support is appreciated - email or call (206.903.KEXP) KEXP now!

4.22.2004 The University of Washington newspaper, The Daily did a great review of Optimus Rhyme's CD in today's issue.  You can check it out on The Daily's website by clicking here or on Optimus' page here at Narcofunk.

4.21.2004 Here is an interesting article from Gamespot.com about indie labels getting songs on video game soundtracks.  Narcofunk's own Rob Aldinger is quoted in the article talking about The 100th Monkey's track Lost City which was featured in Project Gotham Racing 2.

4.8.2004 Thanks to everyone who came out for Optimus Rhyme's CD Release party last Saturday.  The turnout was great and the show was off the hook.  If you tried to pick up a copy of the album @ Sonic Boom and it was sold out, they are now restocked.  Look for them next on Audioasis on May 1st and support them now by requesting them on KEXP now at 206.903.KEXP.  In other news, check out the new single by Like Minds.  It's a dope track from this new crew out of Tacoma.  Lastly, The 100th Monkey is looking for a new female vocalist.  Email us if you or someone you know is interested.

3.3.2004 Optimus Rhyme will be appearing on KEXP's Audioasis on May 1, 2004 and the album continues to get rotations on the local show.  The official CD release date has been moved up a week to April 3rd @ The Rainbow.  Optimus Rhyme's CD is now available for purchase online @ CDBaby.com and will be available at Sonic Boom within the next week or so.

2.19.2004 We have locked down The Rainbow to host the Optimus Rhyme CD Release party on 4/03/2004. The album will be available in stores (Sonic Boom) and online (CD Baby) on March 15th. KEXP has copies in hand and has already been spinning tracks off the album. Support the Autobeats by calling KEXP at 206.903.KEXP or email them at dj@kexp.org and request a track. Do it now since you don't have anything better to do, do ya?

1.15.2004 Thanks to everyone who came out to the EMP for New Years. I think it's safe to say that everyone had a good time.  Big news in the New Year is the upcoming release of Optimus Rhyme's debut full length.  The album is complete, but you're gonna have to wait till March to pick it up.  You can check out the track, Ford vs. Chevy right now though, it's our single of the month.  There will be a bombing CD release party sometime in March.  Stay tuned to the website for more details.

10.13.2003 Narcofunk Records has secured the EMP's Liquid Lounge for New Year's Eve.  Optimus Rhyme and The 100th Monkey will both be bringing in the new year for your enjoyment.  Also, The 100th Monkey's track, Lost City is featured in the upcoming November release of Project Gotham Racing 2.  That track will also be available on the PGR2 hip-hop CD released nationwide.  Finally, there are a couple of new reviews of Looking At My World that you can check out here.
